ORB - SpY

ORB Cairo - Egypt, 2022: “Orb” draws its inspiration from the historical Egyptian heritage around it. The choice of form and materials in the piece is presented as a direct reference to elements of mathematics and symbolism present in classic Egyptian culture and in the Pyramids in particular.

The shape of the piece alludes to the ‘pi’ number concealed in the geometry of the Pyramids, found when dividing the perimeter of a Pyramid by twice its height. The sphere is an invisible part of the resulting geometry, since a sphere with a radius as high as the Pyramid would have a circumference very close in length to the Pyramid’s perimeter.

The surface of the artwork captures the Pyramids, the sky, the surroundings and the viewers in a multiple fragmented reflection. It references the role of the circular mirror in historical Egyptian symbolism, where it was linked to the sun and conveyed notions of creation and rebirth.

“ORB” is part of the major group exhibition ‘Forever Is Now II’, organized by Culturvator Art D’Égypte in collaboration with UNESCO and the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities. The exhibition proposes a universal cultural heritage confronted with contemporary artistic practices, exploring themes from the distant past to the present to dream about the future of humanity.

ORB Cairo - Egypt, 2022: "Orb" se inspira en la herencia histórica egipcia que le rodea. La elección de la forma y los materiales de la pieza se presenta como una referencia directa a los elementos matemáticos y simbólicos presentes en la cultura egipcia clásica y en las pirámides en particular.

La forma de la pieza alude al número "pi" oculto en la geometría de las Pirámides, que se encuentra al dividir el perímetro de una Pirámide por el doble de su altura. La esfera es una parte invisible de la geometría resultante, ya que una esfera con un radio tan alto como el de la Pirámide tendría una circunferencia muy cercana en longitud al perímetro de la Pirámide.

La superficie de la obra capta las pirámides, el cielo, el entorno y los espectadores en un reflejo fragmentado múltiple. Hace referencia al papel del espejo circular en el simbolismo histórico egipcio, donde estaba vinculado al sol y transmitía nociones de creación y renacimiento.

"ORB" forma parte de la gran exposición colectiva "Forever Is Now II", organizada por Culturvator/ Art D'Égypte en colaboración con la UNESCO y el Ministerio de Turismo y Antigüedades de Egipto. La exposición propone un patrimonio cultural universal confrontado con las prácticas artísticas contemporáneas, explorando temas desde el pasado lejano hasta el presente para soñar con el futuro de la humanidad.
